A few hours after CBSE announced the Class XII board exam results, two 17-year-old students allegedly committed suicide on Monday.

In the first incident,a Chhattarpur-based girl hanged herself from the ceiling fan of her home on Monday afternoon.

Identified as Vaishali Sharma,an arts student of a government school in the area, she scored a 54 per cent. Her family said the score was much below Vaishali’s expectations.

Polices said Vaishali went to check the results at a cyber cafe with a friends. Her friend had scored an aggregate of 70 per cent.

“She returned home and told her parents that she had managed to pass the exams. Then she went to her room,” a senior police officer said.

Surinder Sharma,Viashali’s father, said even though they had told Vaishali that they are satisfied with her result, she seemed upset and requested them to leave her alone for sometime.

When her father called her for lunch, she did not respond, police said.

“The girl locked herself in her room and hanged herself from the ceiling fan with her dupatta. Her parents rushed her to the hospital, but she was declared dead on arrival,” police said.

In a separate incident,Mahek,an arts student at a government school in Sector-7,Rohini,allegedly committed suicide after she failed to clear the Board exams. The police recovered a suicide note from the spot.

“The note said she was very disappointed with her result,as she was expecting at least passing marks. She wrote that she was herself responsible for her death,” police said.
