In a major embarrassment to the Bharatiya Janta Party, its senior leader and MLA Jagdish Mukhi’s son-in-law joined the Congress, along with eight BJP workers from Janakpuri West. Suresh Kumar,Mukhi’s son-in-law,joined the Congress after he was denied ticket from BJP.

J P Aggarwal and Mahabal Mishra welcomed Suresh Kumar to the party. Mishra said it is a “home-coming” for Kumar as his father had been a Congress worker all his life.

“Suresh will ensure that Congress wins in South Delhi Corporation, and will campaign for Sanjay Puri, the Congress candidate from Jankapuri West,” said Mishra.

Kumar was expecting a ticket from BJP for the MCD polls but when he was denied one,Kumar filed his nomination as independent. Later,he withdrew his nomination
