A 19-year-old youth was arrested for allegedly killing an eight-year-old girl and then raping her in outer Delhi’s Samaypur Badli area Thursday night.
Police said the accused, Chander Bhukan, who hails from Uttar Pradesh and works at a brick kiln, was in an inebriated state at the time of the incident.
According to police, the girl’s body was found the next morning in a field where her father worked as a labourer. The family of four, which migrated from Bhagalpur in Bihar, lived in a cottage in the field.
Police said on Thursday evening, three young men came to the girl’s house to celebrate Holi. Later, the father went outside to pick up his son from a friend’s place while the girl and her mother went to sleep.
When he returned, he noticed his daughter was missing from her makeshift bed outside the cottage. The family began to search for the girl and soon found her slipper nearby, suggesting that she could be somewhere in the field.
“Her body was found 30 metres away from their house in the early hours of Friday. The father informed his employer, who called up the police. The three suspects were tracked down. During questioning, Bhukan confessed to the crime,” said Deputy Commissioner of Police (Outer) Vikramjit
The accused allegedly raped the child and strangled her, said police.
However, an officer said certain inconsistencies in his statement, regarding the sequence of events, led investigators to suspect that he may have sexually assaulted the girl even after she was dead. He added that this will be ascertained by the autopsy report, which is awaited.
Two more minors raped in capital
In two separate incidents, two minor girls were raped in southwest Delhi’s Sagarpur and northwest Delhi’s Adarsh Nagar areas.
In the first incident, the girl’s parents approached police and said their landlord had raped their daughter. Police said the girl complained of severe stomach ache Friday, following which she was taken to a doctor, who confirmed sexual assault. She later told her mother that the accused lured her to his residence and allegedly forced himself upon her.
In the second incident, a three-year-old girl was allegedly raped by her 35-year-old neighbour at a slum cluster in Adarsh Nagar Thursday. Neighbours were alerted after they heard the girl scream. They caught hold of the accused and handed him over to police, said a senior officer.
In both cases, police said the accused were arrested under relevant sections of the IPC and POCSO Acts. The children were counselled in the presence of their mothers.
