Delhi advanced from the league stage to the quarterfinals in both the men’s and women’s category of the inaugural edition of the national 3×3 basketball championships at the Thyagaraj Stadium on Wednesday.

The women recorded convincing wins over Madhya Pradesh (19-7) and didn’t even let the match go to ten minutes against Rajasthan winning 21-7. They also got a walkover against Karnataka.

The men on the other hand lost comprehensively (21-7) against Karnataka but made up with wins against AP (21-14)and Tripura (21-8) — with the latter victory coming with two minutes to spare.

The path for the two teams only gets tougher. The women are dwarfed by the Tamil Nadu side while the men take on pre tournament favourites Punjab.

The pace setters of the tournament so far have undoubtedly been Tamil Nadu in the men and Railways in the women, with both teams finishing off all their matches inside the stipulated time.

Tamil Nadu, who shocked runners-up of the 2012 senior nationals Punjab 21-10 , would infact record the fastest victory of the tournament as they crushed Bihar 22-9 after just 4:50 minutes of play.
