A six-year-old girl was run over, allegedly by a speeding car, in south Delhi’s Kapashera area Saturday morning. Her head was severed due to the impact of the accident, said sources.

Police said the driver, an employee of a five-star hotel, has been arrested. He was caught by residents of the JJ cluster where the girl, Vati, lived and handed over to police.

According to police, the incident took place at 8 am. The girl’s father said she was playing on the pavement when she dropped her toy on the main road. The girl stepped on the road to pick up her toy when the accused ran her over. “I heard a loud sound. When I went to check, I found her body… Her head was severed,” said the father.

A case has been registered at Kapashera police station and the accused has been arrested. Police said a medical examination of the accused showed no traces of alcohol in his body.

This is the second such incident this week. On Wednesday, a 10-year-old boy was mowed down by a car driven by a Delhi University professor.
