The Delhi government Wednesday launched a smartphone app to curb pollution from burning of waste or leaves as well as from vehicles.

The Swachh Delhi App, launched by Deputy Chief Minister Manish Sisodia, will allow people to post pictures and locations of burning garbage, dry leaves, construction waste or polluting vehicles. Sisodia said the government will monitor complaints on a daily basis and take action.

“Residents of Delhi can send us images. Teams will be dispatched immediately to resolve the problem,” said Sisodia.

“If any issue is not resolved, sanitation inspectors will be asked for an explanation. A fine will be imposed on them, which they will have to pay from their own salaries,” said Sisodia.
