Another police head constable has become the victim of an alleged media trial, after he was dismissed from duty over charges of misbehaving with a woman driver in central Delhi’s Tughlak Road area.
Satish Chandra was recently reinstated after police found that he was provoked by the woman, and that the charges against him were not as severe as shown in the media.
He is still under suspension as investigation in the case is not yet complete, said police.
The incident took place in May last year. Chandra, who was posted at Tughlak Road as the circle officer, stopped a woman for jumping a red light and asked her to pay a fine of Rs 200. A heated argument soon broke out between the two.
A video recorded by a passerby showed the woman hurling stone at Chandra, who hurled a stone back at her.
After the video surfaced on social media, Chandra was dismissed from duty with immediate effect and arrested after a criminal case was lodged against him.
Sources said the investigation in the case is pending and the chargesheet is yet to be filed. So far, investigation has suggested that Chandra was not wholly at fault as he was provoked by the woman in entering into a scuffle with her.
