Chief minister Sheila Dikshit on Monday raised the pitch for next months municipal elections, accusing the BJPs state chief of using civic funds to favour an advocacy group which his wife manages.
Dikshit said Bharatiya Janata Partys (BJP) State President Vijender Gupta used Municipal Corporation of Delhi (MCD) funds for Sampurna,an NGO of which his wife is the founder-president.
The NGO has taken money from the MCD and Social Welfare department. How it is spending money, nobody knows… more facts about it may come to light soon, Dikshit told journalists.
When asked for more details about the allegations,Dikshit said,I never said I have any proof…but if I am making an allegation, then its not from thin air.
But Vijender Gupta, who is also the MCD councillor from Rohini, denied having any direct involvement with the NGO.
Such baseless mudslinging shows just how frustrated the chief minister is with the massive support that our recent public rallies have garnered, he told Newsline.
Gupta led several public rallies called the Jan Sangarsh Yatra throughout Delhi last month,in which he slammed the Dikshit government for corruption, especially during the Commonwealth Games preparations.
Gupta had last week made public documents accusing Dikshits Parliamentary Secretary Tarvinder Singh Marwah of forging marksheets to get his daughter admitted to the Delhi University, after which he resigned from the post.
Shobha Vijender,Founder-President of Sampurna, told Newsline her organisation will file a defamation case against Dikshit. We began operations in 1993,and,so far,our record is clean. How can the chief minister make such baseless defamatory remarks? she said.
She added her organisation has been receiving MCD grants since the time the Congress used to manage the MCD a decade ago,and also from the Delhi governments Social Welfare department.
While attacking Vijender Gupta,Dikshit also said the BJP should substantiate the graft allegations the party is levelling against her government and said the BJP-ruled MCD has failed to provided basic civic amenities.
The BJP has been levelling allegations of corruption against the Centre and Delhi government. But all I want to say is,those who live in glass houses should not throw stones at others, Dikshit said.
