The Delhi excise department has arrested 32 people over the last two days for drinking in public places. So far, 242 people have been arrested in the drive.
The daily number of such arrests have, however, dipped which, government officials feel, could be because of the demonetisaiton of Rs 500 and Rs 1,000 notes, following which people have little or no cash to spend.
In the crackdown that started on November 7, the excise department had arrested 36 persons on the first day. “There were no arrests on two days in between (November 14 and November 15) because one was a dry day and police could not deploy personnel for the drive as they were being deployed to monitor swelling ATM queues,” a government official said.
