A day after a 13-year-old lost his arm after his school bus turned turtle in Greater Noida, the police have arrested the 35-year-old bus driver who had fled the scene after the accident.
Police said that the driver has been identified as Brij Pal and a case of negligent driving has been lodged against him. Deputy superintendent of police Anurag Singh said, “We are currently trying to trace the transporter whose bus was being used by the school.”
Meanwhile, the management at Vishwa Bharti Public School (Greater Noida) have terminated the contract of the transporter. “The contract details are registered at the Ghaziabad Regional Transport Office (RTO). We have the registration number of the bus, so it should just be a matter of time before we find the transporter,” Singh said.
Two teachers and two students of the school had been seriously injured in the accident — including Priyanshu, who lost his arm.
Officials of the Ghaziabad RTO said that due to the ongoing Lok Sabha elections, the transport department is yet to conduct it’s annual checking of school buses plying in Ghaziabad and Noida.
“Once the results for the elections are declared, we’ll be begin the process of checking buses. This is especially important for buses owned by private contractors that are being used by private schools,” said an official.
