A 31-year-old man was allegedly beaten and his fiancee molested by a group of four men at a pub in New Delhi’s Chanakyapuri area on Friday evening.
According to police, the group of men had attended a wedding before they came to the pub, Pepper Kebab Grill and Lounge, for an after party. Police said the men started making comments at the couple who were seated at a table opposite theirs.
“One of the accused started making obscene gestures and also passed lewd comments at the woman. When her fiance intervened, the parties broke into a fight. The accused reportedly got violent and started to beat the man. They even pushed his fiancee and touched her inappropriately,” police said.
According to police, one of the accused smashed a beer bottle on the man’s head. In his statement to police, the man stated that despite the couple’s pleas for help, the bouncers and the manager of the pub did not take any action. Following the complaint, police contacted the licencing authority and the licence of the pub was suspended, police said. Police said the brawl lasted for about 15 minutes and three of accused managed to flee.
“No one came to our rescue. They beat me and misbehaved with my fiancee, but no one did anything,” the man stated. “Initially, we ignored their comments. But they started making objectionable gestures. When I objected, they started an argument. One of them came and smashed a bottle on my head. When my fiancee tried to shield me, the men beat her too,” the man told police.
After the incident, a PCR call was made. One of the accused was arrested and was identified as Sunny, the 23-year-old son of a businessman. Three other accused are still at large. Police said a case has been registered at Chanakyapuri police station and investigation is on.
