Cops seize contraband worth Rs 125 cr,four men arrested

Four alleged members of an international drug syndicate were arrested and 370 kg of ephedrine worth Rs 125 crore in the international market was seized by Special Cell,the police said on Wednesday.

Four alleged members of an international drug syndicate were arrested and 370 kg of ephedrine worth Rs 125 crore in the international market was seized by Special Cell,the police said on Wednesday.

The accused,identified as Mehboob Khan (68),Arther Frank (42),Sandeep Bansal (36) and Krishan Kumar (42),were arrested after an input about drug trafficking activities of the syndicate was received by the police.

Deputy Commissioner of Police (Special Cell) Sanjeev Yadav said following the input,syndicate members’ activities were brought under surveillance. After a tip-off,information that Mehboob Khan will deliver a big consignment of ephedrine to a Nigerian national in Shakarpur area,a trap was laid on June 15 to apprehend the accused. “Mehboob along with his associate,Drona,came in a TSR and when Mehboob Khan handed over 50 kg ephedrine to Arther Frank they were apprehended. A total of 50 kg ephedrine was recovered from Frank’s possession and 290-kg ephedrine was recovered from Mehboob Khan,” Yadav said.

It was also found that Drona received a consignment from Bansal Pharma in Bhagirath Palace on May 31 which was then sent to Hapur,UP,for delivery. However,later the customer,a Nigerian,insisted on delivery in Delhi and the consignment was brought to here by Drona,police said.

“A raid was also conducted at Bansal Pharma,Bhagirath Palace,on June 21 and Sandeep Bansal was arrested and 20 kg ephedrine was recovered from his office,” police said. Krishan Kumar,who had supplied 20 kg ephedrine to Sandeep Bansal was arrested from Chandni Chowk and 10 kgs ephedrine was recovered from his possession. Both Sandeep Bansal and Krishan Kumar are traders of the chemicals in Bhagirath Palace,Delhi. Police have registered a case against the accused and the investigation is on.
