With the race for municipal seats moving beyond the heats, the line-up is becoming clearer with stalwarts, especially of Congress, seeking tickets for sons and daughters, kith and kin from wards in their Assembly strongholds.

To back their claim that their children are “deserving” candidates for seats in the newly trifurcated civic agency,MLAs are waving lists of qualification and achievements.

Those in the queue for tickets to their children and relatives include two-time former Speaker Chaudhary Prem Singh,Deputy Speaker Amrish Singh Gautam and MLAs Dayanand Chandila,Jai Kishan and Mukesh Sharma.

The civic polls are seen by many as a learning experience in grassroot politics for a foothold in the party.

Former Delhi minister Mangat Ram Singhal told Newsline that his son,Vinay Singhal,is “competent” and will make him proud.

“Vinay is well educated, young, dynamic and holds a law degree. He had been running my business, but supported me during elections. He assisted me and Kapil Sibal in election campaigning. This time,he asked if he could contest the corporation polls,” Singhal said.

Congress MLA from Sultanpur Majra,Jai Kishan, said his two sons will contest the elections.

“Both my sons are educated. One is an MBA and other a graduate. Varun Dhaka and Rahul Dhaka have filed their papers for the municipal polls. I guarantee to the party the Peeragarhi seat,if they get a ticket,” Jai Kishan said.

MLA Mukesh Sharma has thrown his weight behind nephew Rahul Sharma. He said Rahul has been a party worker for long and the first elected youth Congress president from West Delhi.

“Rahul has shown the potential of a strong party worker. He filled the form and submitted his bio-data at the party office like others,” Sharma said.

Dayanand Chandila is also expected to field his son. Avinash Gautam, son of Deputy Speaker Amrish Singh Gautam, has also filed his papers,as has Chaudhary Prem Singh’s son.
