A 17-year-old girl was killed after the car she was travelling in collided with two vehicles in north Delhi’s Sarai Rohilla area on the intervening night of Monday and Tuesday. Seven people were injured in the incident. Police said the deceased, identified as Priya Shukla, studied in Class XII and was returning from a birthday party.

“Shukla and three of her friends were travelling in a Tata Hexa car which was on the wrong side of the road near Inderlok Metro Station. It hit two vehicles coming from the front. Witnesses told police that the speed of the vehicles was such that after the crash, the victim’s car overturned,” a police officer said.

Police said the other two vehicles were a Hyundai i10 car and a mini tempo. “Jubair, Naeem, and Yaqub were sitting in the i10, while the tempo was occupied by an elderly couple, Mustafa and Haneefa Khatoon, and their five-year-old grandson,” said the officer. Police said that soon after the accident, two of the occupants of the victim’s car got out of the vehicle and ran away from the spot. Shukla and her friend, Dev, were critically injured and remained trapped inside.

The injured were taken to Acharya Shree Bhikshu Hospital where Shukla was declared brought dead. The other seven are recuperating, police said, adding that Dev’s condition is critical. Police have registered a case and seized the vehicle.
