The CBI, which arrested Ravneet in September, submitted the chargesheet before the special CBI court in Panchkula Tuesday. The CJM and his parents — K K Garg and Rachna Garg — have been booked under sections 304-B (dowry death), 498-A (husband or relative of husband of a woman subjecting her to cruelty) and 120-B (criminal conspiracy) of the Indian Penal Code. Ravneet has also been booked under sections of the Arms Act.

Geetanjali’s family had alleged that even after spending a huge amount on her marriage in 2007, Ravneet and his family ill-treated her and demanded expensive gifts and cash. The family told the CBI that over Rs 50 lakh was given to Ravneet, besides a car. Geetanjali’s harassment intensified after she gave birth to two girls, the family, which had also written to the Prime Minister on the failure to arrest the accused three years after the murder, alleged.
