Civic body gives nod to ATMs in its buildings

The East Municipal Corporation on Thursday approved a proposal to rent out portions of its buildings and other premises to banks for installing ATMs.

The East Municipal Corporation on Thursday approved a proposal to rent out portions of its buildings and other premises to banks for installing ATMs.

“The corporation are several buildings in residential,institutional and commercial areas. The monthly rent from ATMs will help us augment our resources. People will also benefit,” the civic agency’s Standing Committee chairman Mehak Singh Chaudhary said.

Officials said the banks would be selected through an open and transparent bidding process,which is expected soon.

The top bidder (one that offers to pay the highest monthly rent) would be given 10 square metres of space,the officials said.

“People visit community centres,dispensaries and civic offices. These places can be ideal for installing ATMs,” an official said.

“We need to explore avenues to generate extra revenue. We support the ATM proposal,” Leader of the Opposition Varyam Kaur said.
