Landlord shoots at tenants,one injured
New Delhi: The wife of an MCD election candidate sustained a bullet injury when her landlord allegedly shot at her on Wednesday. Police said Suman Lata was at her Budh Vihar Phase II residence along with her husband Surender and son Gurinder when their landord,Sulender Singh,came in. The victims family and the landlord had been involved in a property dispute,which led to the incident,police said. Sulender wanted them to vacate the house,but they didnt want to. The dispute is being heard by a city magistrate. They had a dispute on Wednesday and Sulender took out a pistol and fired at the family. The bullet hit Suman Lata in her stomach, said a police official. Sulender has been arrested.
IP University offers three new courses
New Delhi: The Guru Gobind Singh Indraprastha University (GGSIPU) has introduced three new courses M Tech course in Food Technology,PG diploma course in Radiological Physics and PG diploma in Educational Management. These will be offered in the next academic session. The admission brochures for these courses and all other courses were released on Wednesday. The new session of the University is scheduled to begin on August 1. Admission forms and brochures for all courses are available at branches of Indian Bank.
Woman jumps to death,kin say foul play
NEW DELHI: A 33-year-old woman allegedly committed suicide by jumping from the third-floor of her apartment building in Northwest Delhi. Reena married five months ago and was staying in a joint family. Her family has alleged foul play in her death. A team of officials rushed to the spot as soon as we received the call. We saw the victim lying on the ground in a pool of blood. No suicide note was recovered from the spot, a senior police officer said. Additional DCP (Northwest) Romil Baniya said,Her father said his daughter was tortured for dowry. As of now these are just allegations,and we have ordered an inquiry.
Man held for smuggling 6,000 memory cards
New Delhi: A Fatehabad resident was intercepted and arrested by the Customs department for alleged smuggling,after he landed at the Indira Gandhi International Airport from Hong Kong on Tuesday. Over 6,000 memory cards were seized from him while he was exiting through the Green Channel. The passenger,Vinay Kumar,was intercepted by the Customs officials on a tip off after he arrived on Air India flight 317. While he was going out through the Green Channel,he was stopped and his bags were scanned, a Customs official said. On examination,6,174 memory cards worth Rs 14.43 lakh were seized.
