City briefs : DMRC director resigns citing personal reasons

Delhi Metro’s Director,Kumar Keshav,who oversaw the construction of the Badarpur corridor,has resigned citing personal reasons.

New Delhi: Delhi Metro’s Director,Kumar Keshav,who oversaw the construction of the Badarpur corridor,has resigned citing personal reasons. Keshav put in his papers on Wednesday,and his resignation was accepted by the Board of Directors at a meeting held on Thursday,according to a DMRC spokesperson. Keshav had joined DMRC in 2002 on deputation from the Indian Railways,and will continue to work with DMRC till May 31.

Plea against CM case withdrawal dismissed

New Delhi: A city court on Thursday dismissed BJP leader Vijay Jolly’s plea against an application by the Delhi Police for the withdrawal of a poll code violation against Delhi CM Sheila Dikshit. Metropolitan Magistrate Vijeta Singh rejected Jolly’s plea to be allowed to intervene in the court proceedings. Jolly had made the plea saying he had been directly affected in the matter as he had lost the 2008 Assembly polls against Dikshit.

Woman fined Rs 2 lakh for stealing power

New Delhi: A 70-year-old woman,held guilty of stealing electricity,has been sentenced by a Delhi court to day-long detention in the courtroom,besides a fine of Rs 2 lakh. Showing leniency to convict on grounds of her age and alleged poverty,Additional Sessions Judge (ASJ) S K Gupta sentenced Uttam Nagar resident Dhan Devi to detention “till rising of the court”,but did not spare her the fine.
