A 17-year-old inmate of a child care home in Outer Delhi attempted to commit suicide on Tuesday after his requests for money to pay the fees for an academic course was ignored,police said.

New Delhi:A 17-year-old inmate of a child care home in Outer Delhi attempted to commit suicide on Tuesday after his requests for money to pay the fees for an academic course was ignored,police said. The boy told police that he has cleared Class XII and needed money to take admission in IGNOU for a bachelor’s degree in Social Work. Police said he alleged that the shelter home’s supervisor refused to give him the money. No case has been registered.

Hindukush quake felt in Noida,Delhi

New Delhi:An earthquake that measured 6.3 on the Richter scale and had its epicentre in the Hindukush shook parts of Noida and Delhi on Thursday evening. This was followed by an aftershock that measured 5.1 on Richter scale,but it was not felt in the national capital.

Bricks hurled at lawyer in Southwest Delhi

New Delhi:An advocate was injured after two unidentified men allegedly attacked him with bricks and stones in Inderpuri,Southwest Delhi,on Thursday. Advocate Prashant Mendiratta told police that he was driving home when two men hurled bricks and stones at his car and smashed the windscreen. “I was carrying Rs 1.20 lakh,so I didn’t stop the car. But I was bleeding as a stone hit my left arm,” he told police.

DTC adds more buses to its airport line

New Delhi:The Delhi Transport Corporation (DTC) officials said on Thursday they have pressed into service more buses on the airport line after the Airport Express Metro was suspended for repairs in the civil structure. They said air-conditioned buses have been made available at a frequency of 10 minutes.

Gupta exempted from court appearance

New Delhi:A city court on Thursday exempted Delhi BJP President Vijender Gupta from personal appearance before it in response to summons issued against him in a defamation case filed by Chief Minister Sheila Dikshit. Metropolitan Magistrate Saumya Chouhan allowed Gupta’s plea for exemption from appearance on July 12 and fixed the matter for August 31,seeking his presence in court that day.

Three mcd sweepers held for molestation

New Delhi:Three MCD sweepers have been arrested for allegedly molesting a married woman in South Delhi’s Vasant Kunj area. Rajbir,Manoj and Ashok — all in their late 20s — were drunk,police said. A case under IPC Section 354 (assault or criminal force to woman with intent to outrage her modesty) has been registered,police said.
