Calling charges against the 21 AAP MLAs “motivated and demoralising”, Delhi assembly speaker Ram Niwas Goel Wednesday said that an adverse political campaign has been unleashed against them.
Goel, who too has been named in a fresh petition filed before the Election Commission accusing him of holding an office of profit by heading the Rogi Kalyan committee, said, “I am compelled to break my silence. My speaking up is aimed at protecting the dignity of the office of elected representatives, the speaker and of other constitutional offices which are becoming tools in the hands of people who want to harm democratic institutions.”

He also denied allegations that he was chairman of the Rogi Kalyan Samiti.
He said he had received a communication from the chief electoral’s officer on November 2 — after it had already reached the media.
Leader of opposition Vijendra Gupta sought an apology from the Speaker for questioning the integrity of the offices of the President and the Election Commission.
