The first fleet of radio taxis driven by women and catering only to women customers will be on the roads from April 1. Around 20 cabs were flagged off on Friday by IPS officer Kiran Bedi as part of the For She services of Delhi Cabs.
The taxi service will redefine safe travelling experience for women in the Capital as it has already revolutionised taxi services in Mumbai since February last year. The women drivers were trained over the last year, and having acquired commercial driving licences, are now all set to hit the roads.
Rigorous training sessions were also conducted by the For She Travels and Logistics Services for driving, behaviour, martial arts and road familiarity.
The women drivers are fully trained and confident, said Ajay Nayyar, manager, corporate communications,Delhi Cabs.
The cabs are specially designed to give a safe driving experience to women drivers. Though the cabs will be the same Versa cabs, they are a little different in terms of infrastructure. There is a coupe with six seats and if there are fewer commuters, the seats can be folded for additional space, Nayyar said.
The driver will have her personal enclosed space. The cabs are also fitted with GPRS systems and panic buttons for emergency. A central control room will monitor the cabs throughout their service hours, he added.
The cabs can be availed on 44333222 or 44222222 and will be available from 6 am to 10 pm. Charges for the service will remain the normal Rs 15 per km.
Delhi Cabs will start the For She services in other cities like Kolkata and Hyderabad soon too.
