A businessman from Andhra Pradesh was arrested by the Delhi Police Crime Branch for being in possession of 8 kg heroin worth Rs 25 crore.
According to police, Anumulagundam Somasekhar was arrested from Hazrat Nizamuddin railway station on Thursday.
At the time of arrest, Somasekhar had procured a consignment from Srinagar and had brought it to Delhi, police said.
Additional Commissioner of Police (Crime) R S Yadav said Somasekhar had earlier started a construction business. However, he suffered losses and started a stone-crushing business which did not do well. In January, he met an NRI, Rajni, who lured Somasekhar into smuggling contraband for a quick buck, Yadav said.
He said Somasekhar had managed to smuggle 2 kg heroin 10 days ago.
Police said they were conducting raids to nab other members of this drug ring.
