Mohan Bhagwat to address rally on Tuesday as party leaders say ‘rebel’ Parvesh Verma has fallen in line

To give a shot in the arm to BJP workers in Delhi, the new RSS chief,Dr Mohan Bhagwat,is expected to address a mass meeting of RSS and BJP workers at the Ram Lila Maidan on Tuesday.

Bhagwat,58,who took over as the RSS ‘Sar Sangh Sanchalak’ or chief from the 78-year-old KS Sudarshan,is considered a staunch Advani backer. Though BJP leaders maintain that he is coming to the city on purely RSS business, the timing close to the general elections is hard to miss. The announcement of Bhagwat’s visit was made by Delhi BJP President,O P Kohli at a party meeting. All party workers have been urged to attend Bhagwat’s address in conventional RSS attire. The meeting was held at the Delhi BJP office to address workers on the plan of action for the upcoming Lok Sabha polls.

The meeting was attended by V K Malhotra,O P Kohli,Ram Lal (the party’s General Secretary),and Delhi Mayor Arti Mehra apart from all seven candidates from Delhi. While addressing workers,Kohli asked them to work at the micro level for maximum efficiency. “For the maximum utilisation of time and resources, workers should concentrate on an area covering 5-10 polling stations in their constituency.” He added that direct contact with voters is also necessary.

The meeting also saw Opposition leader in the Assembly Vijay Kumar Malhotra, coming back in form spitting fire against the Congress and calling Prime Minister Dr Manmohan Singh a ‘coward’.

“All the prime ministers of India have been members of the Lok Sabha except Manmohan Singh. He can’t even muster courage to fight an election or even have a public debate with L K Advani,” he said.

In an interesting development, sources told Newsline that sulking BJP leader and son of late Sahib Singh Verma,Parvesh Verma, will be ‘staying in the party and work for it.’ The ‘Mahapanchayat’,which had earlier called to protest against Verma’s exclusion from the list, made this decision after the BJP failed to comply with its March 27 deadline to give him a ticket. Verma, however, denies getting any sort of communication from the ‘Mahapanchayat’. “I am still waiting for their decision, and can’t comment. I will comply with whatever decision they take,” Verma told Newsline.

Jagdish Mukhi, who got the party ticket in place of Verma, said that he was confident that Parvesh Verma would be supporting the party.

“He is our man and I was always sure that he will be working for the party. Had he been given the ticket in my place,I would have done everything to make him win and I know that he will do the same,” he said.
