In a fresh bout of counter allegations between the AAP and the BJP in Delhi, AAP MLA from Malviya Nagar, Somnath Bharti, has alleged that BJP’s Delhi president used his credentials as the party president to inaugurate “a public-funded utility”

The allegation was made after Delhi BJP chief Satish Upadhyay inaugurated a public toilet in the Assembly constituency, with the plaque for the utility displaying Upadhyay’s credential as the party president, rather than his “constitutional post of local counsellor”.

The plaque, erected outside a newly constructed public toilet in Malviya Nagar, reads: “Iss jan suvidha sthal ka udghaatan maanniye Shri Satish Upadhyay, Adhyaksh, Bharatiya Janata Party, Delhi Pradesh, dwaara 23-08-2014 ko kiya gaya. (This public convenience complex was inaugurated by honourable Shri Satish Upadhyay, president, Delhi Pradesh BJP, on 23-08-2014).”

While Bharti alleges he was not even invited for the inauguration as the area MLA, Upadhyay countered the allegation, saying Bharti was “not supposed to be invited”.

“I am the area counsellor and the party president. He (Bharti) can say anything he likes. And why should we have invited him? He was not supposed to be invited,” Upadhyay said.

Earlier in the day, Bharti had uploaded a photograph of the plaque put up by the South Municipal Corporation in Malviya Nagar. “Plaques can’t be used to advertise your party credentials. Mr Upadhyay could have displayed his constitutional post of local counsellor,” Bharti tweeted.

When contacted, Bharti said, “From the Lieutenant-Governor’s office to all the other departments and properties, everything is being coloured as BJP.”
