Noting that the Capital is always under the threat of terrorism,Union Home Minister P Chidambaram said the Delhi Police should be “innovative and imaginative” in its approach to combat the scourge.

Chidambaram, chief guest at the 62nd Raising Day Parade of the Delhi Police on Tuesday, said terrorism is the most extreme manifestation of violence.

“The city always faces the threat of terror. We live in a difficult world with several threats of violence. Policing in the Capital requires a very different approach; the police need to be innovative and imaginative,” he said, adding that policing in metros and large cities always require more visibility, mobility and striking power; and that the police force must have all the three.

Mischief-mongers must fear police; this will be possible only when the police are disciplined and innovative,he said, adding that senior officials need to remain on high-alert and take lead to counter such menace.

The government has brought about many changes to improve visibility and mobility of the police,he said. “It is not enough to have 410 traffic motorcycles and 630 PCR vans in the city. Delhi Police has to remain a step ahead,” he said
