Even as the State Election Commission gears up to finalise the municipal elections arrangements,councillors are racing against time to lay foundation stones for projects that have already been approved.
As the model code of conduct will come into effect in a months time,around 150 foundation stone-laying ceremonies and inaugural functions will be held in January. Foundation stones will be laid for nearly 30 school buildings during this period. MCD Works Committee chairman Jagdish Mamgain said that the panel had approved new school buildings at Sultanpuri,Pooth Khurd,Bawana,Push Vihar,Geeta Colony and Shastri Nagar,at a budget of Rs 18.60 crore.
Four road underbridges will also be inaugurated at Kirti Nagar,Mongolpuri,Sawan Park and Sanjay Gandhi Transport Nagar in January,before the declaration of the elections.
According to Mamgain,five community halls including multipurpose ones at Punjabi Colony and Geeta Colony have been approved in the budget and,soon,councillors will lay their foundation stones.
As many as 50 roads will either be laid or carpeted. We will take up carpeting of roads at Prem Nagar and Kalyanvas,and construct a drain at Khurenji, said Yogendra Chandolia,Chairman,Standing Committee. Four child welfare centres will also be inaugurated in various wards.
Construction work on the Centre of Disaster Management in Dwarka will be taken up soon.
