A 10-year-old boy was run over by a BMW near the Akshardham flyover in East Delhi on Friday night,eyewitnesses told police. Prem was crossing the road when he was hit. His parents work as labourers and live in the nearby relief camps set up for those affected by the Yamuna flood. Police sources said Prem was declared dead on arrival at the hospital. The driver sped away after the accident,police said.

Traffic cop shot at in Jaffrabad

A 40-year-old Delhi Police head constable was shot at in Northeast Delhi’s Jaffrabad area,during a robbery bid. Ajay Verma was returning home in an autorickshaw from Kashmere Gate ISBT with three others when they were waylaid by three men around 12.30 am on Friday. They asked Verma to hand over his belongings,shot at him and fled when he resisted,police said.

Woman killed by lover in Badarpur

A 28-year-old woman was stabbed to death by her lover at her residence in Badarpur,Southeast Delhi,on Friday afternoon,police said. Her landlady,Dayawanti (40),was also stabbed when she went to the woman’s flat on hearing her cries for help. The accused,Mukesh,was apprehended by residents of the building and handed over to police.

‘Remove illegal Yamuna bank constructions’

Uttar Pradesh Chief Secretary Jawed Usmani has asked officials to remove illegal constructions in the low-lying area of Yamuna and Hindon rivers in Noida. In a review meeting of the illegal constructions on Friday,Usmani ordered strict action against the officials of departments and authorities who gave no-objection certificate for these constructions.
