On the last day of campaigning, BJP made one big push in one of the biggest slums of Okhla. But neither Kiran Bedi not her name was in circulation. Addressing a crowd of about 3,000 people, BJP national president Amit Shah spoke for 27 minutes without mentioning Bedi’s name even once. Instead, it was only about Modi and his “sarkar”.

Shah spun his entire address around the achievements of the Modi government. Speaking of campaigns like ‘Make in India’ and ‘Jan Dhan Yojana’, Shah said, “Under Modiji’s guidance, the party made promises which we have fulfilled in the last eight months. Petrol and diesel prices went down 12 times and and inflation numbers came down drastically. Has it ever happened in the last 10 years.”

Holding the last UPA government responsible for all the ceasefire violations during its rule, Shah said, “Rahul baba… The firing at LoC did not make any difference to you (Rahul Gandhi) because you were wearing ‘Italian chashma’. But now Pakistan starts firing, and we Indians finish it,” said Shah, mockingly.

Referring to the Rs 2 crore donation that AAP allegedly received from “doubtful sources”, Shah said, “Those who take black money in the dark of night will never be able to bring development (to Delhi). Arvind Kejriwal said any donation above Rs 10 lakh will first be inquired into by the party’s political affairs committee. Has the inquiry been done? Shah said.

Counting the party’s recent success in states like Haryana, Chhattisgarh, Goa, Jharkhand and Gujarat, Shah said the BJP has a track record of winning once it comes to power. “I can read on the walls of Okhla, after the counting day, BJP will emerge a winner here”, he said.
