The four robbers who were shot at by the Delhi Police in South Delhis crowded Green Park area early on Monday evening were rushed to the AIIMS Trauma Centre with serious gunshot injuries.
According to Dr Sanjeev Bhoi, consultant,Emergency Services at AIIMS,all four are alive although two of them are in a critical condition.
Shortly after the encounter, around 4.45 pm,seven people were bought to the Trauma Centre. Three were policemen, and the other four were injured robbers, he said.
The robbers,as identified by the doctors,are Sonu (29),Shakeel (24),Satyaprakash Yadav (30) and Naseem (29).
Sonu is in a very critical condition. He has suffered gunshot wounds in the chest and we are moving him to the operation theatre right away. His condition is life-threatening. Shakeel too is critical but his condition is expected to stabilise soon. He has chest injuries and a fracture in the right femur, Dr Bhoi explained.
Satyaprakash Yadav, identified by the Delhi Police,as the leader of the gang has suffered bone injuries and is currently stable.
Among the police officials injured are Umesh Yadav,C T Suresh, and Kaushalendra Kumar.
The police officers have suffered only minor injuries in their upper body and are stable. They were spared the full impact of the gunshots as they were wearing bullet-proof jackets,in the absence of which, their injuries could have been fatal, Bhoi added.
The Joint Commissioner of Police,Southern Range,Ajai Kashyap visited the four arrested at AIIMS.
I spoke to three of them, but not the fourth as his condition is critical. The leader of the gang Satyaprakash Yadav is a sturdy fellow and he was talking normally. At this stage,we have only verified their names, addresses and other such information. They will be questioned in detail once they recuperate, he said.
