With the Lok Sabha elections fast approaching, the AAP has stepped up its donation drive.

The party sent out New Year greetings via emails and text messages asking people to donate Rs 2,014 to its kitty. The letter, which has been sent by ‘Team AAP’,begins with a New Year greeting. “As 2013 comes to an end,we want to take this opportunity to wish you and your family a very happy 2014,” the mail says.

It goes on to say,“2013 was a truly eventful year, where so many of us came together to pool all our resources — money, time & energy and pulled off a seemingly impossible goal of bringing an ‘Aam Aadmi’ government in Delhi. Together,we have set in motion a huge wave of change across India, which we believe will transform our country’s politics forever.”

The mail then puts in a request for people to donate

Rs 2,014 each. “… Let’s kick off year 2014 with at least 2,014 supporters donating Rs 2,014 and show our support to AAP’s Lok Sabha campaign. Please ask your friends to join and support AAP. 2014 too will be an year of Aam Aadmi,” it says.

Party officials said the message was one of the reasons donations have gone up in the past two days.

“On January 1,donations crossed Rs 40 lakh, against the daily average of Rs 17 lakh since the Delhi elections. Till the evening of January 2,Rs 33 lakh has been received,” an AAP member said.

Since the Delhi elections, the party has collected Rs 3.9 crore.
