Aiming to improve the condition of government schools in the capital, the Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) has set up a team of volunteers who will visit all government schools in the capital and give first-hand information about their condition to Education Minister Manish Sisodia.

In the course of the next few days, the team of approximately 200 volunteers will visit government schools across the city and communicate their appraisals directly to Sisodia on a daily basis.

“We will divide the team into various areas and zones. Areas will be allocated to volunteers depending on where they stay. Once we have divided the zones,we will begin the drive,” Sisodia said.

According to Sisodia, every team will have a supervisor and all members will be expected to submit their observations to the Chief Minister’s office. Once apprised of areas wanting attention, the minister will direct authorities to take necessary action.

A training session will also be conducted for the volunteers. The government is also thinking of creating a questionnaire — one which will list all parameters the volunteers will assess.

“To begin with,we will focus on basic things like availability of electricity, water and clean toilets in the schools. We also want to know if schools have enough teachers,” an official said.

In an earlier interaction with Newsline,Sisodia had said “providing basic facilities like clean drinking water and toilets in Delhi government schools” would remain his top priority. Only volunteers who can devote some time each day for doing the rounds of neighbourhood schools have been chosen for the job.

“We have started with a fixed number, but we welcome anyone who wants to chip in. They should be willing to take time out for the exercise every day,” Sisodia said.
