Officials working in the Wipro campus in Greater Noida stalled work for close to an hour on Friday alleging that five employees were assaulted by taxi drivers employed by the company. They returned to work only after police lodged a complaint in the case.

Police said the fight between the employees and the drivers occurred around 8 am on Friday, after a misunderstanding arose as to whether five employees needed to be picked up for work on Friday. The injured have been identified as Mehraj Khan,Mohammad Umer Khan,Firoz Uzamin,Nazabul Kasmin, and Saqir.

Ashok Priyadarshi,Circle Officer,Greater Noida area, said,“The five employees suffered minor injuries and the situation was brought under control within an hour. Kalyan Kumar, one of the cab drivers, was supposed to pick up the five employees, all of whom live in Jamia Nagar. Kalyan mistakenly thought that they were on leave. So he did not stop the car even though the five staff members were waiting for the car at the designated spot. Another cab was sent to fetch the employees. When they reached office, there was a brawl between the staff members and some cab drivers. So far, only Kumar has been arrested and a case has been filed against him. Investigations are in progress.”

Later in the evening,WIPRO in a statement said,“There was a minor disturbance involving a few employees of our Noida facility and staff of our transport vendor. Wipro will cooperate with investigations.”
