The Foreigners Regional Registration Office (FRRO) informed a city court on Monday that it has deported over 45,066 illegal migrants from Bangladesh since 1991,including 182 this year.

The reply was filed following strictures issued by the court against Delhi chief secretary,Delhi police commissioner and FRRO for failing to identify and deport illegal migrants from Bangladesh.

On April 4,the court, while sentencing four Bangladeshi nationals to a 13-year-imprisonment on charges of robbery, had directed Delhi government to identify and deport all foreigners living illegally in the city. The government was also directed to submit quarterly progress reports on the same.

A petition was filed by advocate Rajesh Sharma against the administration for not complying with this order. In response, the Delhi Police appealed to the Delhi High Court.

The High Court while issuing a stay on the implementation of the order, has, asked police to submit data on the number of migrants deported. The High Court will hear the matter next on September 30.
