As part of the Delhi Transport Corporations (DTC) special drive to check ticketless travel in its buses,2210 buses were checked on Monday and 411 passengers were fined for travelling without tickets,Transport Minister Ramakant Goswami said.
Officials claimed that these passengers were fined Rs 200 each. They said the government loses Rs 1 crore everyday due to ticketless travel.
The DTC will continue the drive till Saturday. On Monday,189 Delhi Police officers and government officials were caught travelling without tickets. DTC had earlier written to Delhi Police to raise the issue of police officers travelling without tickets.
Officials said they were yet to get a response from police. We will have to take a decision at the government level, an official said.
DTC management has decided to take strict action against erring staff members.
The number of enforcement staff members will be increased and special magistrates will be deployed to decide cases of ticketless travelling on-the-spot. It has also been decided to fix responsibilities of the conductors and drivers for negligence of duties. In order to encourage DTC staff to work for the betterment of the organisation,the Chief Ministers trophy will be awarded to the best drivers and conductors. A helpline service will also be launched to provide information on DTC, Goswami said.
