Four youths — aged between 18 and 22 years — drowned in the Yamuna Canal in Outer Delhi’s Alipur area where they had gone for a swim with their friends Saturday afternoon. “The deceased have been identified as Rahul (22), Budhram (19), Amit (18) and Vikas (21).

They were all cousins,” said a police officer. “While two of them went to the deep end and were drawn in by the current, the other two jumped in to rescue their cousins, but also drowned. Their friends raised an alarm, but it was too late,” added the officer.

The bodies of the four youths were retrieved after nearly two hours.
