A 32-year-old man was allegedly shot dead by a group of men at a ‘gaushala’ (cow shelter) owned by him near Basai village in old Gurgaon on Wednesday night. The police suspect that the victim, Sandeep Kataria, was killed by two of his nephews and their friends, said sources. “Revenge may have been the motive as the youth believed that the victim was involved in the murder of their mother almost 10 years ago,” said a police official.

The incident took place at about 9 pm on Wednesday night, when the two men, along with their friends, went to the Shri Krishna Gaushala, said the police.

“Two of them took out their pistols and shot him in the head, shoulders and chest. He was killed on the spot,” said the police officer. Employees of the cow shelter informed police about the incident, said sources.

A case of murder has been registered against five men, including the two nephews. “A complaint has been filed by Kataria’s wife against five men. Prima facie, this looks like a family dispute. However, police investigations are underway,” said Kishori Lal, assistant commissioner of police, city.
