3 killed,5 injured in 2 separate road accidents

At least three people were killed and five others were injured in two separate road accidents in the city over the last 24 hours.

At least three people were killed and five others were injured in two separate road accidents in the city over the last 24 hours.

On Sunday morning,a speeding DTC bus hit at least six people in West Delhi’s Vikaspuri area. Kapil Dev Sharma (77),a labourer,was on his bicycle when the bus hit him from behind.

Sharma was rushed to Deen Dayal Upadhyay Hospital by passersby,where he was declared dead on arrival. The speeding bus also rammed five others who sustained minor injuries,police said.

“The accident happened at 9.15 am near Vikaspuri Mod. The DTC bus was an old one and was over-speeding. A case of causing death due to rash and negligent driving has been registered under sections 279,304 (A) and 337 of the Indian Penal Code,” a police officer said.

In another incident in Southeast Delhi’s Lajpat Nagar area,a motorcycle hit the central verge on the Ring Road early Saturday morning killing both the rider and the pillion rider.

Abhishek Shukla (23) from Bahari in Uttar Pradesh and Yumnam Herojit (23) from Manipur,were rushed to the AIIIMS Trauma Centre where they were declared dead on arrival.

“The road was empty at the time of the accident and the men were speeding. The riders were thrown off the motorcycle in the impact of the crash. They sustained serious head injuries and blood loss. They were rushed to AIIMS Trauma Centre,where they were declared dead,” a police officer said.

Shukla and Herojit were pursuing their MBA from Gayatri Management College in Sector-52,Noida,police said. The Yamaha motorcycle,which the two were riding,belonged to Herojit.
