Two residents of a Noida high-rise, aged 25, were charred to death right outside the society’s gate after their White Swift car went up in flames. The incident took place on the main road in front of Amrapali Platinum society in Noida’s Sector 119 early Saturday.

According to police, CCTV footage shows the car arriving outside the society at 6.08 am — three minutes later, it caught fire.

Police and the fire department rushed to the spot to put out the blaze and found the remains of two unidentified individuals; they were transferred to the mortuary, said Shakti Avasthy, Additional DCP, Noida. The men were later identified as Vijay Chaudhary and Anas Saifi.

Vijay’s family found out about his death around 9 am Saturday. His uncle, Gyanender Singh, said: “Police first tried to reach out to the family at their old residence in Shalimar Garden… later, his father, under whose name the car was registered, received a call and he was informed about the mishap. We rushed to the mortuary then.”

Singh said the family is from Bulandshahr but lives in the society. Vijay had just graduated from college with a software engineering degree and was on the lookout for a job. “He had left home around 10 pm the previous night to attend a friend’s birthday party. The incident took place while he was returning home,” Singh said, adding that his nephew was a loving individual with no flaws.

“The car was only eight months old… we’re clueless as to how it caught fire,” he said.

Saifi’s family refused to speak to the media.

Avasthy said, “As of now, the Noida Police has not received a complaint pertaining to the event. The post-mortem report will be released tomorrow.”

Police said they are probing how the car caught fire.

Meanwhile, eyewitnesses at the scene said the car suddenly burst into flames and its occupants had no time to get out.

“The car had arrived outside the society around 6 am. Suddenly, it erupted into flames. The two men inside tried to escape, but the doors seemed jammed. Noida Police arrived at the scene within minutes, but by then, the flames had already consumed the entire vehicle,” said Raj Rawat, who runs a tea stall nearby.

Another eyewitness, retired navy officer Mahavir, said, “People around just stood there capturing videos… nobody tried to save them… it was security personnel deployed outside the society who rushed to get fire extinguishers but, by then, the car exploded.”
