Two persons were arrested on Saturday for duping people by promising to get demand drafts made for them within the shortest possible time and without paying any bank commission. The police have recovered demand drafts amounting to Rs 2.29 lakh from their possession.

The suspects — Rajkumar and Rajan — reportedly took money and handed over fake and forged demand drafts to people. “They would also provide the fake demand drafts to some businessmen from outside Delhi and would charge 20 per cent of the value of the draft. These businessmen then used the fake and forged demand drafts to make payments in Gandhi Nagar,Chandni Chowk and other places in Delhi, and vanished with the purchased goods once the deal was finalised,” a senior officer said.

The two were arrested from Mori Gate area. During interrogation, they reportedly told the police that they have been running this racket for the last several years, and that some of their associates are in jail.

“Three others have also been identified and efforts are being made to arrest them,” the officer said.
