Police detained two persons for allegedly threatening people and smashing windowpanes of media broadcast vans with an axe outside Le Meridien hotel Monday. Both were reportedly upset that the media had not properly covered an event for protection of cows, said a police officer.

Police rushed to the spot after receiving a PCR call at 12.10 pm about the two persons and security agencies were also alerted as budget was being presented in Parliament not far from the site, said sources.

Police found the two persons had broken windowpanes of three media vans and detained them. Both were taken to Parliament Street police station, where they were identified as Tejamay Swaroop (40) and Ankit Rathore (26). Police said Swaroop is from Odisha and Rathore from Indore, Madhya Pradesh. “During questioning, they said they had come to Delhi to participate in “Gau Mata ko Bachao” event,” said the officer.

After a medical examination, police came to know Swaroop has mental health issues, said a source. Both were detained as a preventive measure, added the source.
