A 13-year-old boy who had gone missing on Friday was found dead in a trunk at a barber shop in Jamia Nagar, Southeast Delhi, on Sunday evening. Police claimed the boy was kidnapped by the barber.
Police said 13-year-old Arham Hussain was kidnapped from a salon near his Johri farmhouse on Friday morning. His parents had filed a complaint at Jamia Nagar police station.
On Saturday Arham’s parents received a ransom call from somebody demanding Rs 10 lakh for his release. Umair, Arham’s cousin, told Newsline, “The caller asked my uncle to pay Rs 10 lakh. He called back on Sunday and told my uncle to hand over the money at Dasna Railway Station. By then, police noticed that the salon had been locked for two consecutive days and got suspicious. They began questioning people, especially the barber’s help Riyaz.”
Police said Rizwan has been absconding while his help, Riyaz, has been detained. The body has been sent for an autopsy. “The boy’s body was found in a trunk, which was padlocked and covered with blankets and utensils. According to Riyaz, the boy had been killed on Friday itself. However, Rizwan was pretending that he had kept the boy alive to blackmail his father for money,” a police officer said.
“A case under Sections 302 (murder), 201 (causing disappearance of evidence of offence) and 364a (kidnapping for ransom) has been registered. We are investigating the matter and a hunt is on for Rizwan,” DCP (Southeast)
P Karunakaran said.
