The 14-year-old girl, who took the two-year-old infant with serious injuries to the AIIMS Trauma Centre in January, will be booked for graver charges now that the child is dead.

A police officer said: “IPC Section 304 relating to culpable homicide not amounting to murder will be added to the FIR registered against her” at the Vasant Kunj (North) police station.

On Tuesday, the girl was produced before the Juvenile Justice Board after police sought permission from the Child Welfare Committee. According to police, the girl admitted during a counselling session that she hurt the infant in a fit of rage.

The Child Welfare Committee also disclosed that the girl was pregnant, that the pregnancy was medically terminated at AIIMS on February 29 and the foetus preserved for DNA tests.

The CWC,in its latest order, stated that the girl has “many behavioural problems” and “does not open up during individual sessions”.

Wen the girl took the infant to AIIMS in January, the child had severe injuries — a shattered skull, fractures on both arms, bite marks on cheeks, and impressions on the cheek that seemed as if she had been branded with a hot iron.

The girl later told counsellors that her live-in partner Rajkumar took her to the Govindpuri Metro station where they met a man who asked him if he wanted to adopt a baby girl. She said that Rajkumar brought the two-year-old to their Mahipalpur home but she refused to take care of the child.

The child was taken to Sangam Vihar but brought back a week later. She told her counsellors that Rajkumar asked her to care of the child. She said that January 17,a day before she rushed the two-year-old to hospital, was the only time she beat the child.
