A 17-year-old boy allegedly committed suicide by hanging himself at his home in southwest Delhi’s Naraina after he was scolded by his parents over his performance in the Class XII board examination. The results were announced Saturday.
According to police, the deceased was identified as Vidyaraj. Police said the boy was depressed after his result and had stopped talking to family members.
“Vidyaraj, who was a student of science stream, scored 60 per cent in the board exams. After he told his parents about the result, they allegedly scolded him. At 1.40 pm, when his parents were not home, the boy allegedly hanged himself with a belt. He did not leave behind any suicide note. It has emerged that he was under pressure to pursue MBBS after school,” said a senior police officer.
Inquest proceedings have been initiated into the incident, added the officer. His father is a vendor in Naraina and his mother a housewife.
