A 10-year-old boy was killed and his 14-year-old cousin severely injured after a DTC bus hit the motorcycle they were riding, in Narela Friday night.

A day after the incident, Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal met the victim’s family Saturday afternoon and assured them of strict action in the case.

According to police, the incident took place at about 8 pm Friday. Yuvraj, his cousin Tushar and Yuvraj’s father were on the motorcycle when the bus hit them from behind.

Police said the children were rushed to the Satyawadi Raja Harish Chandra (SRHC) Hospital in Narela, where Yuvraj was declared dead. Tushar is undergoing treatment.

Passers-by stopped the bus and handed the driver to police. “A case has been registered under sections 279 (rash driving), 304A (causing death by negligence) and 337 (causing hurt by act endangering life or personal safety of others) of the Indian Penal Code and the driver has been arrested,” said Deputy Commissioner of Police (outer) Vikramjit Singh.

This is the second incident of a child being run over by a bus in the past week.

On Thursday, a three-year-old boy was crushed by a school bus in outer Delhi’s Shahbad Dairy area.

The incident triggered mob violence, during which a 20-year-old vendor allegedly died in “police firing”. The mob had set fire to a police motorbike and vandalised at least six other
vehicles.
