Gambling suspect drowns in bid to escape,cops booked

An assistant sub-inspector and a constable of the city police were booked for causing death by negligence on Thursday in connection with the death of a man who drowned in Aji river allegedly while trying to escape from police yesterday.

An assistant sub-inspector and a constable of the city police were booked for causing death by negligence on Thursday in connection with the death of a man who drowned in Aji river allegedly while trying to escape from police yesterday.

“Other responsible” officials of the Thorala and Bhaktinagar police stations were also named in the complaint.

Police said the incident took place after a team raided a gambling den in the Jungleshwar area of the city. While police arrested 11 persons from the sport,Dilawar Gafar (35) and four others fled the scene. When the police gave chase,they jumped into the river near Khokhaldam. Four of them were rescued by the fire brigade while Gafar drowned.

Today,Gafar’s brother registered a complaint against ASI D H Vaghela,constable Raidhan Dangar and others under Section 304 (a) of the Indian Penal Code.
