Congress workers were arrested while they were marching to gherao the house of Mayor Arun Sood over his decision to allow the construction of a parking lot for a school on a green belt.

The protesters were taken to the Sector 39 police station. A Congress worker said: “On April 27, Mayor Arun Sood had asked the chief engineer to construction a parking lot on the green belt adjacent to a school. The construction was approved in the green belt in Sector 38. As a result, the municipal corporation has allotted a huge land worth crores to the school.”

The protesters said green belts are meant for the residents to walk. While allotting the land to the school, the administration has specified the parking area for the school in the land allotted.

Congress spokesman Rajesh Sharma, while addressing the party workers and local residents, said the BJP has only been working for the benefit of the capitalists while ignoring the common people. “Arun Sood has cheated the residents of his ward by appeasing the school management. This is an isolated case of such kind that the municipal corporation is constructing the additional parking area for the school by reducing the area of the green belt,” he said.

President, District Congress Committee Urban 1, Ajay Joshi, said the mayor has miserably failed to fulfill the demands of the residents of the city and has been busy in holding inaugurations of the projects sanctioned and executed by the Congress.
