In a serious attack on state party leadership, former Congress MP Jagdish Thakor alleged Wednesday that “the grip of Congress leaders, who have sympathy with the BJP and are doing business with the help of the BJP leaders and ministers, has strengthened over the party apparatus”.

He said, “They are the very same people who don’t want the Congress to come to power in the state. They are doing everything at their command to prevent the Congress from capturing power from the BJP”. The Congress has been out of power in the state since 1995.

Demanding that the party be “freed from such people by throwing them out of the party”, Thakor said that “Congress can never regain power in the state till some people are thrown out”. However, he refused to name them, saying that everybody in the party and outside knew about these elements. He said, “Such elements are not only in Gujarat, but also in Delhi.”

“I will not allow those to live in peace who are disturbing the sleep of Congress supremo Sonia Gandhi and vice-president Rahul Gandhi,” he said. Asked if he planned to quit Congress, Thakor said: “I will be in the Congress and work for the party till the last breath of my life. There is no question of quitting the Congress. Sonia Gandhi is like mother to me and Rahul Gandhi as a brother.”
