A couple has been arrested in connection with several robberies in the upmarket south Bangalore in the past two months and stolen property worth Rs 38 lakh recovered.
Police claimed KG Nagar natives Prathap Kumar,33,and wife Shilpa,35,who stay in Hoskote,were involved in more than 10 thefts across the city. Kumar,who was allegedly already involved in crimes,married Shilpa eight years ago. She soon started helping him. They would dress well and identify houses to rob in upmarket areas. They would strike mostly in broad daylight.
The couple would break into houses posing as relatives of residents.
The duo knew working couples lived in most apartments they targeted, an investigation officer said.
They did not sell stolen property but pledged it.
Police commissioner Rag-havendra Auradkar said south division police had arrested 77 people for various crimes in the city and recovered stolen property worth Rs 1.55 crore.
In another case cracked by the division,a relative of Dr B M Jayashree and a maid were arrested by Thyagarajanagar police for allegedly stealing valuables from the house of the Bangalore University professor on August 28. The accused,identified as Indramma,sister-in-law of Jayashree,and Rathna,32,were arrested within two days of the robbery and stolen property worth Rs 9.6 lakh recovered.
