Meerut: Man held for restaurant owner’s murder

A man was arrested on Saturday for allegedly shooting dead a restaurant owner in Meerut the previous day over money, police said. Nasir Khan (38) of Khair Nagar locality was shot by two youths while he was on way to his restaurant on a motorcycle along with his four-year-old daughter on Friday. She suffered minor injuries when the vehicle fell.

The assailants, who were on a motorcycle themselves fled after the crime. Angry over the murder, some people, including the victim’s kin, gutted the house of the main accused, Mohammad Rehman, in Delhigate police station area in Meerut.

The mob placed the victim’s body on the national highway, blocking it till Saturday morning. They also gheraoed the local police station. The protesters withdrew only after police assured them of arresting the accused.

SHO of Delhigate police station, MK Upadhyay said Rehman was arrested from Lisadi Road and efforts were on to nab the second accused who is yet to be identified. He added Khan was a property dealer and had a dispute with Rehman over money, which appeared to be the reason behind the murder.
