Almost a year after the gangrape of a law student on Jnanabharathi campus of Bangalore University, the last of the eight accused was arrested Tuesday, four days after the conviction of his six aides.

The seventh accused is a minor facing trial in a Bangalore juvenile court.

Police Commissioner Raghavendra Auradkar said Raja alias Muthuraja,24,of Mettari Doddi village in Ramanagaram district was on the run since October last year. He was arrested at Kebbedoddi village near Anekal where he had gone to meet his wife for Ganesha festival.

Preliminary enquiry revealed Raja fled to Goa soon after the rape and worked as a labourer in the construction industry there. After he resumed communication with his wife, police began keeping a watch.

A fast-track court sentenced six members of the gang to life on September 4 after convicting them of abduction, gangrape, dacoity and assault. Raja, too, has been charged with attempt to murder and dacoity. A local court sent him to police custody.
